Muesli without milk – what are the advantages?
More and more people are adopting a vegan lifestyle, which means they avoid all animal-based foods. This naturally includes not consuming milk and dairy products.
Of course, there are also people who are lactose intolerant or avoid milk for other health reasons.
Many people know that cow's milk is a healthy food. Recently, however, there have been more and more critical voices casting doubt on this opinion. Various studies assume that cow's milk is not healthy for humans. Among other things, it is even said to be carcinogenic.
Generally speaking, milk is intended as food for the offspring of the respective mammal. That is why many people who eat healthily avoid cow's milk and products that contain milk. In addition, most plant-based alternatives are lower in fat and have fewer calories.
People who suffer from lactose intolerance experience a range of health issues after consuming products that contain lactose, including everything from abdominal pain to severe cramps and digestive issues such as diarrhoea or bloating. These people should therefore avoid cow's milk and dairy products that contain lactose.
What milk alternatives are there for my muesli?
Are you one of those people who consume less milk or want to avoid it altogether? Then you are probably wondering what alternatives there are to classic cow's milk, for example, to continue enjoying your Verival organic muesli, which is certified organic, for breakfast. There are now many plant-based alternatives to milk, but fruit juices, smoothies or water also go well with muesli.
A healthy breakfast
For many people, muesli is an essential part of a healthy breakfast. Muesli is available in a wide range of flavours and can be combined in different ways. Whether with milk or yoghurt, with dried fruits or fresh fruit, there is a suitable recipe for every taste. Muesli contains a lot of fibre, vitamins and minerals, as well as long-chain carbohydrates. These keep you full for a long time and have a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract.

Here you will find all the important information about healthy muesli and delicious recipe ideas.
Oat milk – good for the environment
Oat milk tastes neutral and only slightly sweet. Since oats are native to our country, this plant-based drink is a very ecological alternative. The oats are ground, cooked and emulsified with vegetable oil. Oat milk can also be easily made at home. This is an economical and ecological solution.
Almond milk – a sweet plant-based drink
Almond milk has a sweet taste that is slightly reminiscent of marzipan. This vegan drink made from almonds is gluten-free and can therefore be enjoyed by people with gluten intolerance without any problems.
Almond milk is easy to prepare by soaking almonds in water, then puréeing them and filtering the result.
Since a lot of water is needed to grow almonds, almond milk is not the best alternative to cow's milk from an ecological point of view.
Classic soy milk – neutral in flavour
Soy milk is very rich in protein and has a neutral, slightly nutty flavour. Nowadays, you can find soy milk in every supermarket. Compared to cow's milk, soy milk has a higher protein content and a lower fat content.
The soy used usually comes from Europe and is cultivated without genetic engineering. The dried soybeans are soaked, cooked and pureed.
Rice milk – perfect for allergy sufferers
Due to the fact that rice milk is low in allergens, this plant-based drink is particularly suitable for people with allergies. Rice milk is neutral in taste and, compared to other alternative milk drinks, has a higher calorie content and a lower protein content.
Hemp milk
Compared to other vegan drinks, hemp milk contains more fat but fewer carbohydrates in the form of sugar and is therefore lower in calories overall. Hemp milk can also be easily made at home.
Coconut milk – refreshing sweetness
Coconut milk, which can be used as a milk alternative, is very different from the coconut milk used in Asian cuisine. That is why this drink is usually labelled as a coconut drink in supermarkets. Unlike Asian coconut milk, the coconut drink has a higher water content and only 1% fat. The coconut drink has a sweet taste and is particularly refreshing when chilled.
Spelt milk
To make spelt milk, the spelt grains are finely ground, soaked, pureed and filtered. Since spelt is also native to our region, this drink is particularly environmentally friendly. Spelt milk has a slightly mealy taste, contains little protein, but many carbohydrates compared to cow's milk.
Nut milk
Nut milk can be made from any nut. It contains many vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids and is therefore good for your health.
The flavour varies depending on which nut is used.
Hazelnut milk is a very popular variety because of its sweet, nutty flavour. Another advantage of hazelnuts is that they are regionally available.
Lupine milk – a source of protein
Like soybeans, lupins are a type of legume. They contain more fibre and protein and less fat than soybeans. Lupins also score well in terms of regionality.
The drink made from lupins tastes relatively neutral and can easily be made at home by soaking the lupin pods, boiling them, pureeing them and filtering them.
Muesli with fruit juice
Instead of cow's milk or a vegan milk alternative, you can also add fruit juice such as orange juice or apple juice to your muesli. The fruit juice will make your breakfast a refreshing and fruity affair.
Muesli and water
To save calories, you can also prepare your muesli with water. For example, muesli with oat flakes soaked in boiling water makes a delicious porridge. If you want, you can of course also try muesli with cold water, but that's a matter of taste.
Muesli in combination in a smoothie
If muesli tastes good with fruit juice, why shouldn't muesli taste good with a smoothie? The advantages of a smoothie are, on the one hand, its slightly thicker consistency compared to fruit juice and, on the other hand, the fact that a smoothie usually contains several types of fruit.
