We have often presented milk and, above all, plant-based drinks to you on our blog. Find out, for example, how you can make plant-based drinks yourself or how organic plant-based drinks really are.
If you do not want to consume milk anymore or cannot tolerate it, you can fall back on numerous alternatives. For example, there is the soy drink, various nut drinks such as almond milk or hazelnut milk and, last but not least, cereal drinks such as the oat drink.
Today we will introduce you to the different types of yogurt. For example, there is Greek yogurt or natural yogurt . But there are also a lot of alternatives to yogurt made from cow's milk or other animal milk. Vegan varieties are based on soy or coconut, for example. One thing is certain: they can all be combined with our mueslis and crunchies. You can buy our granola in the Verival shop or buy your cereal.
Simple and tasty – the natural yogurt
First of all, we want to ask ourselves what yogurt is and how it is made. The process of producing yogurt is called fermentation. Lactic acid bacteria are used, which are added to the milk. The bacteria convert the lactose into lactic acid (lactate) . The pH value decreases, causing the protein to coagulate and yogurt to form.
Natural yogurt refers to yogurt to which no sugar or fruit has yet been added. It has a sour taste . In general, natural yogurt is a healthy food that contains a lot of good calcium .
Yogurts come in a variety of forms, including skimmed milk yogurt , low-fat yogurt, regular yogurt, cream yogurt, and Greek yogurt , which we'll cover in more detail shortly. In general, the creamier the yogurt, the higher the fat content of the product. Fruits and other flavours such as chocolate, nuts or vanilla are often added to natural yogurt.
Greek yogurt is booming!
Everyone knows it, the Greek yogurt - but why is it so popular at the moment and what distinguishes it from "normal" yogurt?
The Greek yogurt has a particularly creamy consistency and thus differs from the normally more liquid yogurt. It also tastes more intense .
As with regular yogurt, milk is used to make Greek yogurt. However, a significantly higher amount is required. Because the water and the whey are drained and only the really creamy ingredients remain. This gives it its thick consistency .
Because of this manufacturing process, Greek yogurt is higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates than regular yogurts. As a result, athletes in particular like to use the alternative. However, it also has a higher fat content , namely almost 10 percent. The Greek yogurt can be enjoyed both sweet and spicy . As a breakfast or sweet snack in between, it can be combined with honey or fresh fruit . Greek yogurt is also perfect for sauces and soups, salads or casseroles . It tastes particularly good with our delicious Verival crunchies as a topping.
Vegan yogurt as an alternative
Nowadays, there are also many plant-based alternatives to regular milk yogurts. We would like to introduce you to 4 of them in this blog post:
- Coconut yogurt
- Almond yogurt
- Cashew yogurt
- Soy Yogurt
Coconut yogurt
The coconut yogurt makes you particularly full and is also nutritious . It has a rather high fat content and also contains a lot of calcium . This calcium can be better absorbed than that in cow's milk and is important for teeth and bones. Vitamin D, magnesium and vitamin B12 are also contained in coconut yogurt, which is also particularly good in desserts.
Almond yogurt
Almonds are popular with many with their sweetish mild taste . They contain many important nutrients and are also a wonderful source of high-quality unsaturated fatty acids . In addition, almonds are a good source of fiber that supports your digestion. You can also find important vitamins and minerals in almonds. Almond yogurt is a creamy alternative to regular yogurts. It is particularly mild in taste and goes exceptionally well with muesli.
Cashew yogurt
No wonder cashews are so popular; they not only taste great, but are also a real brain food. Cashews are very healthy thanks to the variety of minerals and vitamins and can also make you happy. So why not just try cashew yogurt? A super creamy alternative with a nutty taste .
Soy Yogurt
Soy yogurt is made just like regular yogurt by adding lactic acid bacteria to the soy milk . This causes the soy milk to coagulate and the yogurt to form with its sour taste . Like the other plant-based yogurt alternatives, soy yogurt does not contain any animal products, and can therefore be enjoyed by vegans without any problems.
Try the yogurt granola bowl
We recently launched our cocoa sour cherry granola . The chocolate crunchy muesli with sour cherries and cocoa is fully organic, vegan, whole grain and completely dispenses with palm oil . And more importantly, it can be ideally combined with yogurt .
Here is a recipe for the delicious yogurt granola bowl , for which you can use Greek yogurt, natural yogurt, but also plant-based alternatives:

Yogurt Granola Bowl
Ingredients
- 150 g yogurt or vegan alternative
- 30 g granola of your choice
- 300 g fruit of your choice (e.g. strawberries or cherries)
- 1 tbsp cocoa nibs
Preparation
-
First, put the yogurt in a bowl and stir it a little creamy. Alternatively, you can, of course, also use potfen or skyr instead of yoghurt.
-
Next, puree about 200 g of fruit with a blender stick. We used cherries here to go with the granola.
-
Then pour the pureed fruit onto the yogurt to create a fruit mirror.
-
Next, add the granola and cocoa nibs to your yogurt bowl.
-
Finally, add some fresh fruit to your yogurt granola bowl.
